Patsy Gaede

Obituary of Patsy D. Gaede

Patsy Darleen (Cummins) Gaede was born on July 14, 1937 at home in Slaton, Texas to Jesse Henry Cummins and Salema Esther Sheegog. She then lived in Muleshoe, Texas until the family moved to Limon, Colorado in 1949. After graduating as Valedictorian from Limon High School Patsy went to nursing school at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated as an RN in 1958. She then worked for the VA in Denver until she married Charles Gaede. After the wedding, Patsy moved back to Limon to continue her nursing career and raise her family. Patsy worked at the Hugo Hospital where she covered everything from delivering babies to caring for motorcycle accident victims in the Emergency Department. During the course of her life, Patsy went back to nursing to school to earn her BSN from Metro, and then her MSN from Regis. Her family was very proud of her, because how many gray haired ladies graduate with their Masters? She worked in Alamosa, Colorado for a few years, before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado where she worked until her retirement. Patsy was an avid reader. She owned more than 1000 books in her private library. One of her favorite things to do when she was first married was grab an apple and climb up into the cottonwood tree in her yard and read her books. Even though Patsy was quiet, she had an adventurous streak. She was not afraid to try new things or go to new places. She traveled to places that include California, Hawaii, Mexico, New York, Washington State, British Columbia, among other places. Pasty enjoyed dinner theater and would frequently take her family to see the latest shows. She herself participated in band playing the bass clarinet and sang in choir. She belonged to the Limon Woodlin Women’s Choir for a time. Patsy was very adept and creative in crafting. When her children were still at home, Patsy often volunteered her time at the Limon Baptist Church as VBS teacher/craft leader and church camp nurse/ craft leader. Patsy created many beautiful needlepoint wall hangings. Patsy died on January 19, 2020 and leaves a genuine legacy for her family and those who knew her. Patsy was preceded in death by her father Jesse and her mother Salema. Patsy is survived by her two sisters Peggy Kimble of Limon, Colorado and Sue Hodges of Pueblo, Colorado; children Beth Gaede of Limon, Andrew and Tara (Combs) Gaede of Limon, and Deborah (Gaede) Pieper of Gering, Nebraska; grandchildren Emma Gaede, Kaleb Gaede, Hannah Gaede, Zach and Randi (Hughes) Pieper, Mark Pieper, Jacob Pieper; and great grandchildren Jenna and Simon Pieper; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and one great great niece.
